Congratulations on making it through Fall semester. Keep in mind that the Library will be closed during winter break. We will reopen January 17, 2018, when Spring semester begins. Visit our website for more information about hours at CSM Library.

Need to return something you've checked out?

Our staff will periodically check the Library "book return" box located outside of the Library building (next to the stairs). However, it won't get checked every day. 

If you are concerned about a late fine, we recommend returning your item to one of the public libraries in the Peninsula Library System (PLS). Check for the nearest location.

LexisNexis Academic is now Nexis Uni

LexisNexis has rebranded and updated its database for college students. Check out what's new in Nexis Uni!

Nexis Uni™ features more than 15,000 news, business and legal sources from LexisNexis—including U.S. Supreme Court decisions dating back to 1790—with an intuitive interface that offers quick discovery across all content types, personalization features such as Alerts and saved searches and a collaborative workspace with shared folders and annotated documents.

Nexis Uni replaces LexisNexis Academic

Nexis Uni is designed to address three key components requested by millennial students: personalization, collaboration and quick discovery. Nexis Uni offers many new features to address these needs, and is a better research experience overall for students. Below is a snapshot of each feature:

Personalization

• You may self-register for a user account, giving you added benefits and an improved research experience
• Create alerts on topics or publications of interest
• Save searches, add sources to favorites, and bookmark documents to save time

Quick Discovery

• Usable on your mobile device
• Search all types of content at once, or search specific content like legal cases or company profiles

Collaboration

• Create and share folders for group research projects
• Save documents to shared workspaces
• Mark it up! Highlight or make notes to share your comments with your group

If you are sharing links to LexisNexis Academic, or permalinks to individual articles or other content from this database, please be aware that these links will change. Be sure to update your syllabi, Canvas, or other documents in which you are sharing links with your students.

What about the old app?

If you have been using the old app, please note that it will be discontinued January 3. We apologize for any inconvenience. You may log in to your Library account online in the mean time, or contact your Library directly to renew materials, place holds, and more.

Changes coming soon to our EBSCO databases

The Library contract with EBSCO is changing Spring 2018 semester, and as a result, there are a few changes you might notice to content available from EBSCO.

What's New 

The most exciting change is that both Academic Search Premier & MasterFile Search Premier will both be upgraded! We will get access to a lot more new content, covering more topics.

Some specific resources will be discontinued, as follows:

• Auto Repair Resource Center
• Book Index with Reviews (BIR)
• Consumer Health Complete
• Professional Development Collection
• Religion and Philosophy Collection

Recommended resources to use instead

Here are our recommendations for finding the content you need from the databases that will be discontinued.

Auto Repair Resource Center: A lot of auto repair information and how-to videos are now available freely online. Please check with a Librarian if you need assistance searching the internet for auto repair information.

Book Index with Reviews: The Library has other databases with book review information. Additionally, many book review resources can be found freely online.

Library databases to try include Literature Resource Center and Magill's Literary Annual. Online sources include Booklist Online, New York Times Book Reviews, NPR Book Reviews, Goodreads, and many more.

Consumer Health Complete: The Library has many health databases to turn to when you need to answer your health questions. See recommended health databases on the Library website. Of particular note are Health Source (Consumer Edition), Salem Online, and Natural Medicines.

Professional Development Collection: The Library recommends turning to ERIC, the Education Resource Information Center in place of the Professional Development Collection.

Religion and Philosophy Database: Content from this database will be included in our updated Academic Search Premier database. However, for additional information on Philosophy, we recommend JSTOR, ProQuest Research Library, and the Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy.

If you are sharing links to any of the seven impacted databases, or permalinks to individual articles or other content from the impacted databases, please be aware that these links will change. Be sure to update your syllabi, Canvas, or other documents in which you are sharing links with your students.

Stream feature films assigned for class with our new database Swank Digital Campus!

New at CSM Library

Swank Digital Campus

This streaming film database has a Netflix style viewing experience, and features a selection of films from the many major Hollywood studios as well as many independent, foreign, art house, and documentary offerings.

Easily watch films assigned in class from home. The Library is working with Film Studies, Ethnic Studies, and others across campus to provide access to as many films we can that are being assigned for you to watch in class.

Your Library Card is required for login when viewing films from off campus. Please contact a Librarian if you have any questions.
